Family Photography Faq

What should I expect on the day?

Expect a relaxed, friendly session where the focus is on capturing genuine moments with your family. Whether we're at your home, in the studio, or out on location, I’ll guide you through everything—there’s no pressure to pose perfectly. We’ll take our time, especially with little ones, allowing for breaks, snacks, or a bit of silliness when needed. My goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere where everyone can be themselves, so we get images that feel natural, joyful, and totally you.

Where do family shoots take place?

You can choose between your home, a relaxed studio session, or an outdoor shoot at one of Bristol’s lovely parks or urban spots. All options offer something special—studio shoots give you clean, timeless portraits, while home and location shoots capture a more natural, lifestyle feel with your family in their element.

What’s the difference between a studio and a location shoot?

Studio shoots are perfect for classic, styled portraits with controlled lighting and a more polished finish. Location shoots give us more flexibility, movement, and often a playful, candid feel—especially great with kids!

Why is there an extra cost for studio sessions?

Studio sessions cost £50 more because I hire a professional studio space specifically for your shoot. This ensures you get the best possible setting and lighting. The studio fee is non-refundable once the booking is confirmed, as I commit to the hire on your behalf.

Why would I choose to rent a studio space instead of using your portable studio setup at our home?

While my portable studio is a great free option for creating beautiful portraits in the comfort of your own home, renting a professional studio space (for an additional £50) offers some unique benefits. Studios provide much more room to work with, allowing for a wider range of poses, backdrops, and lighting styles — especially helpful for larger families or more creative setups. The controlled environment also means perfect lighting and no worries about limited space, home décor, or unpredictable natural light. If you’re after a more polished, magazine-style look or just want a little extra flexibility for your session, the studio option can really elevate your final images.

How long does a family shoot last?

Typically around 1 to 1.5 hours. This gives us plenty of time for different setups, outfit changes, and for everyone to relax into the session—especially little ones!

What should we wear?

Wear something you feel comfortable in and that reflects your family’s personality. Coordinating colours work really well, but there’s no need to match exactly. Avoid bold logos or overly busy patterns, unless that’s your vibe!

How many people can take part in the shoot?

The session covers one household group, but I’m happy to include grandparents or extended family by arrangement—just let me know when booking so I can plan accordingly.

Can we bring pets?

Yes—if you're doing a location shoot and your pet is part of the family, they’re absolutely welcome! For studio sessions, it depends on the space—please check with me first.

How do we get our photos?

After the session, I’ll send you a gallery of the best images to choose from. You’ll then receive your final selection, professionally edited in high resolution, ready to print, share, or frame.

When will we receive the photos?

Final images are delivered within 1–2 weeks after you’ve made your selections. If you need them quicker (for a gift, for example), just let me know.

What if someone’s ill or we need to reschedule?

I totally understand—life with kids (or grown-ups!) can be unpredictable. If something comes up, I’ll always do my best to reschedule. Just note that if a studio has already been booked and we’re past the cancellation window, the £50 studio hire fee is non-refundable. That said, I’ll always try to find another shoot to cover the cost for you, so you’re not out of pocket.

How do we book a shoot?

Just send me a message through the contact form or by email. We’ll have a quick chat to plan the shoot that suits your family best, and then I’ll confirm the details with you.

What to expect before and on the day?

Before your session, we’ll have a quick planning call to talk through your ideas, outfit choices, and the overall vibe you’re going for. I’ll also send over a simple mood board based on our conversation to help visualise the style, colours, and feel of the shoot—whether you're after something sleek and classic, creative and bold, or soft and natural.

On the day, the session will feel relaxed and collaborative. I’ll guide you through everything—posing, movement, and expression—so you’re never left wondering what to do. You don’t need to be a model or have experience in front of the camera! We’ll take our time to find the right light, angles, and energy that bring out your personality. I aim to create a calm, focused space where you can feel confident and at ease.

If your shoot is in the studio, everything will be set up and ready to go when you arrive. If we’re on location or at your home, I’ll scout a few key spots and make sure we’re making the most of the setting.

Most of all, it’s about you—and making sure you leave feeling great, with portraits that really reflect who you are.

Where do portrait sessions take place?

You can choose between a professional studio, an outdoor location around Bristol, or even your own home. Whether you’re after clean, classic portraits, creative environmental shots, or something a little more experimental, we’ll pick the setting that best suits your style and personality.

What’s the difference between a studio and a location shoot?

Studio shoots offer more control over lighting and backdrops, giving a polished, editorial feel. Location shoots—whether urban, natural, or at home—tend to feel more relaxed and expressive. Both can be tailored to match the look you're after.

Why should I consider paying extra to rent a studio instead of using your portable setup?

My portable studio setup works really well for creating professional portraits at your home — and it’s included at no extra cost. But renting a dedicated studio space (for £50 extra) gives us even more creative freedom. Studios offer much more space, a choice of backdrops, and the ability to use more advanced lighting setups that just aren’t possible in a smaller room. If you’re looking for a really polished, high-end feel to your portraits, or simply want a bit more variety, a studio session can be a fantastic upgrade.

Why is there an extra charge for studio sessions?

Studio shoots incur an additional £50 to cover the cost of hiring a professional space. I book this studio specifically for your session, so the fee is paid upfront and is non-refundable once the booking is confirmed. If for any reason you need to reschedule and we’re past the cancellation window, I’ll always try to book another session to help cover that cost.

What should I wear for my portrait session?

Wear something that makes you feel confident and reflects who you are. You’re welcome to bring multiple outfits if your package allows. Solid colours usually work well, but feel free to express your style—this is all about you.

How long does a session last?

That depends on your chosen package:

  • Bronze: 1 hour
  • Silver: 1 hour
  • Gold: 2 hours
  • Custom. book yourself a custom package and we can shoot all day.

Each session is relaxed and unhurried, with plenty of time to get comfortable and explore different looks.

Can I customise a package?

Absolutely—custom packages and quotes are available on request. Just let me know what you have in mind and we can build something that suits your needs.

When will I get my images?

Once you’ve made your selections from the gallery, final edited images are delivered within 5 working days. If you’re on a tight deadline, let me know—I’ll do my best to fast-track them.

What if I feel awkward in front of the camera?

You’re not alone—most people do! I create a calm, encouraging space so you can relax and be yourself. I’ll guide you gently throughout, helping you look and feel your best.

Headshot Faq

What should I wear for my headshot?

Go for solid colours and simple, well-fitting clothes that reflect your brand or industry. Avoid busy patterns or logos unless they’re part of your company identity. Layers (like blazers or cardigans) photograph well and give a polished look. I’m happy to offer guidance if you’re unsure!

Where do the headshot sessions take place?

I offer both studio sessions in Bristol and location shoots (your office, co-working space, or an outdoor setting). We can discuss what works best based on the image you want to project.

Can I do outfit changes?

Yes this can be included in to your package! If you’d like a variety of looks—perhaps one more formal and one more casual—that’s absolutely fine. Just let me know in advance so we can plan the session accordingly and do you a custom package.

How many photos do I get?

I usually provide a selection of the best images from the shoot for you to choose from. You’ll then receive a set number of professionally edited, high-resolution images based on the package you choose.

Do you retouch the images?

Yes—each final image is carefully retouched to remove distractions and enhance natural features, while keeping the result authentic and true to you.

When will I receive my images?

I aim to get you your final images within 5 working days after you’ve made your selections. If you need them urgently, just let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate.

Can you photograph my whole team?

Absolutely. I can come to your workplace for consistency across your team’s headshots. We can also include group shots or lifestyle images for your website and marketing.

What if I feel awkward in front of the camera?

You’re not alone—most people do! I work in a relaxed, encouraging way to bring out your best and make the experience enjoyable. My goal is to create a space where you feel confident and natural.
